Niyati Shah, a Research Analyst in Westat’s Social Policy and Economics Research sector, has accepted a Fulbright Fellowship to track extreme heat and rainfall data and conduct interviews with migrant women in Bengaluru, India, living in flood-prone areas. Shah plans to use a mixed-methods research approach to help inform the creation of better systems to help these women, who are particularly vulnerable, move safely, get better health care, and adapt to climate change. At Westat, Shah has assisted on a range of projects, from nutrition to public health and labor programs. She has led quantitative and qualitative analyses, built data collection tools, conducted interviews, and disseminated findings. “My work at Westat has equipped me with the skills and background necessary to conduct a study at the intersection of public health, climate change, and urban infrastructure,” says Shah. “I thank my brilliant mentors at Westat for guiding me throughout the preliminary stages of my career in health research.”
