A recent study commissioned by the Department of Labor (DOL), Equity in Grantmaking: A Review of Barriers and Strategies for Funders Considering Improvement Opportunities (PDF), explores research and strategies related to equity for billions of dollar in grantmaking funding each year by governmental and philanthropic organizations.
The report’s authors, Westat’s Sonya Streeter, MPP, Sarah Giordano, Allison Hyra, PhD, and Niyati Shah, reviewed the literature and interviewed federal and philanthropic grantmakers. Their investigation examines how funders define equity within the context of grantmaking, identify barriers to increasing equity, and implement improvement strategies.
