During the Child Passenger Safety Week (September 17-23) and throughout the year, Westat is proud to promote improved child passenger safety through our project work. For the 3rd year, Westat has provided the analysis for a social media campaign promoting child passenger safety, Child Passenger Safety Week: Social Media Toolkit (PDF). This kit is made freely available to all advocates around the United States to help promote child passenger.
Westat will participate in the inaugural Baby Safety Caucus this week, which provides a forum for safety advocates and congressional staff to promote best practices in keeping babies safe.
Westat staff also recently participated in the Kidz in Motion International Child Passenger Safety Conference. During the conference Adele Polson, a Westat Senior Study Director, presented “Let Your Car Seat Inspection Data Do the Talking!” teaching Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) how to leverage the data collected at car seat checks to better educate families and also support their programs. Westat does this work in partnership with the National Safety Council (NSC) under the National Digital Car Seat Check Form (NDCF) Program.
Through our NDCF work, Westat produces over 3,000 custom dashboards each month. Check out National Digital Car Seat Check Form Dashboard (YouTube video), which highlights how these dashboards provide data on car seat misuse to technicians, agency leads, as well as vehicle and car seat manufacturers.
