Lauren Mims, PhD, a Westat Senior Study Director and automotive engineer, will be participating at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress Experience (SAE WCX) in Detroit, Michigan, April 18-20, 2023. The conference is the largest technical mobility event, bringing together industry, academics, regulators, and research institutes to share the latest information on regulatory standards, consumer metrics, and emerging technologies.
Mims will present a paper during The Future of Mobility and How to Achieve Equitable Mobility for All session: What Makes Passengers Uncomfortable in Vehicles Today? An Exploratory Study of Current Factors that May Influence Acceptance of Future Autonomous Vehicles. The co-authors include: Rakesh Gangadharaiah, Johnell Brooks, Haotian Su, and Yunyi Jia from Clemson University; and Julie Jacobs and Sterling Mensch from SAGE Automotive Interiors.
The paper explores factors that influence passenger comfort from users across the lifespan, including automotive engineering graduate students, non-technical adults, and seniors, to help inform the design and acceptance of future vehicles. The paper will be available through SAE Mobilus on April 18.
