NOPUS
The National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS) is sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The survey is a means of measuring the rate of seat belt restraint and motorcycle helmet usage in the United States. The NOPUS project helps safety advocates and regulators to better understand if their regulatory and outreach programs are working. It also identifies subgroups within the U.S. population that should be targeted for intervention (educational and enforcement campaigns) to help increase their use of safety devices. Consequently, the results of NOPUS are of significant interest to NHTSA, the U.S. Congress, state governments, employers, and other highway safety support groups.
We are currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to collect seat belt use data for an important transportation study. Data collectors will travel to observation sites and use an electronic tablet to collect data and transmit data to Westat on a nightly basis. Interested individuals should click on the “Search for Positions and Apply Now” button on the main page. Select your state and search keyword “NOPUS”.
